COMMUNITY NEWS

  • State Senator Aric Putnam will host a panel discussion at Tech High School on Wednesday, September 10 from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. that lets St. Cloud residents share safety concerns following the Annunciation Catholic School shooting in Minneapolis—local officials include Police Chief Jeff Oxton, St. Cloud Area Schools Superintendent Laurie Putnam, and mental health provider Zach Dorholt.  KNSI
  • The St. Cloud Park and Recreation Department will show The Little Rascals and host yard games, an inflatable obstacle course and a slide at the Whitney Sports Complex today—families can bring a lawn chair and enjoy snacks like hot chocolate from the concession stand. The event begins at 6:30 p.m. with the movie playing after 7:30 p.m.  WJON
  • The Central Minnesota Youth Soccer Association will host an open house at Selke Field on September 21 from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. to celebrate its historic purchase for $350,000 with support from local donors and the Initiative Foundation—activities will include family games and a four-on-four tournament.  KNSI

CRIME NEWS

  • A Moorhead man living in St. Cloud has been charged with second-degree murder after his roommate died from thallium poisoning—investigators linked his online searches and three separate poison purchases to the fatal case.  WJON
  • The Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office has confirmed that the remains of Roy Benn, missing since 1967 and found in a submerged car near Riverside Avenue in Sartell, match DNA tests from September 4—authorities continue to probe the cause and manner of his death.  WJON

CULTURE NEWS

  • Local comedian Adrian Washington took the stage on Kill Tony and made the audience laugh with his one-minute set that shared funny family stories about his nieces and nephews—he was also named a finalist for the St. Cloud Financial Credit Unions Changemaker award.  WJON
  • Rock 4 ALZ—a nearly decade-long event for dementia caregivers—will be held this Sunday in St. Joseph with a singer-songwriter set by Michael Shynes and Clayton Ryan starting at 1:00 p.m.; additional performances by Collective Unconscious, Slip Twister, Killer Vees, and local School of Rock teens will follow.  KNSI

EDUCATION NEWS

  • A community panel on school safety will be held Wednesday from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Tech High School Commons in St. Cloud with leaders including Senator Aric Putnam, Police Chief Jeff Oxton, Superintendent Laurie Putnam, and mental health provider Zach Dorholt—residents will share concerns after the recent tragedy at Annunciation School.  WJON

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • St. Cloud residents will meet at City Hall Monday, September 8 at 6 p.m. to share their views on Mayor Anderson’s proposed 2026 budget—his plan calls for a 4.49 percent property tax increase that adds about $72 a year on a typical home and includes extra fire levy costs, with final numbers expected in November.  WJON
