- ➤ Farms and orchards across Central Minnesota are starting fall activities by offering corn mazes, pumpkin patches and apple picking; some are open now while others will open later this month. Visitors can try a 64-acre maze at Stoney Brook Farms in Foley and see Triple S Pumpkins in Royalton — they have wagon rides, photo sessions and a petting zoo. St. Cloud Times

- ➤ A Central Minnesota bakery is celebrating 10 years and will host a week-long party starting tomorrow with Funnel Cake Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.—the celebration will also include in-store deals, free shipping and a pie-eating contest on September 27th with a $150 cash prize. WJON
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ St. Cloud Area School District 742 saw an increase of 266 students—more than expected—with most growth coming from elementary levels as kindergarten enrollment jumped from 690 to 761. School leaders reviewed class sizes, staffing needs, and boundary changes in response to the surge. KNSI
- ➤ A national website ranked St. Cloud State University as Minnesota’s top nursing school after its nearly 96% NCLEX pass rate — the program features modern simulation labs and strong healthcare partnerships in its four-year Registered Nursing degree. WJON
- ➤ Students at St. Cloud Christian School are raising funds through bake sales, service projects and classroom challenges to remodel their new building in Waite Park with a goal of $500,000 and an anonymous donor matching contributions to potentially bring the total to $1 million — the project will add classrooms, athletic facilities and science labs for preschool through high school students. A Carnival and 5K is scheduled for October 25 at their current site near Spalt Park to support the effort. KNSI
- ➤ St. Cloud Christian School got a $500,000 matching donation—helping fund a new campus at the former Crafts Direct site in Waite Park. The school will host a Carnival and 5K Run on October 25th to raise $1 million for the project. WJON
- ➤ The St. Cloud District 742 School Board reviewed the preliminary 2025-2026 budget on Wednesday night and proposed a levy of $16.1 million—a 4.7% increase from current spending. District finance director Amy Skaalerud said the tax rate will increase less than 1% with similar tax capacity growth and that final approval will come in December with funds collected in 2026. KNSI
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ City officials announced that starting Monday, September 22, eastbound traffic on Veterans Drive will shift to the inside lane due to sidewalk construction—drivers on the west side will switch to the inside lane beginning Monday, September 29, and changes are expected to last through mid-October. Motorists are advised to allow extra time and use alternate routes to avoid delays. KNSI
- ➤ Absentee voting begins today for Stearns County’s November 4 Special Election, where voters in Commissioner District 4 and District 742 will choose a new county commissioner and school board member. Voters can cast ballots in-person at the service center in Waite Park from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on weekdays — they may also vote by mail. WJON

- ➤ CentraCare will host a free breast health and wellness session on October 2 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Coborn Healing Center in St. Cloud—attendees will learn about screenings, risk factors, and treatment options provided by multiple service lines. KNSI
