COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Pal-A-Palooza returns to St. Cloud this Sunday at Wilson Park from 11:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. where 10 bands will perform 45-minute sets with 15-minute breaks — community members are invited to bring food for a potluck picnic.  WJON
  • The Initiative Foundation awarded $160,000 in Joy—Connection grants to 25 organizations in Central Minnesota to support key projects including mentoring programs, art workshops, festivals, and wellness retreats. The funding has helped strengthen community bonds in areas such as St. Cloud, Foley, and Little Falls.  KNSI
  • Community members will join the Downtown Visioning Workshop on Tuesday, September 30 at the River's Edge Convention Center to share ideas for redeveloping downtown by focusing on the riverfront and relocating the Stearns County site. The workshop will run from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and its results will update the city’s comprehensive plan for future funding and partnerships — officials said.  WJON
  • St. Cloud’s annual East End Festi-Fall event held Sunday brought residents together with live music, various food options, and vendors selling homemade goods — organizers also offered a sneak peek of the upcoming eatery, The Kitchenette.  WJON

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A 7-year-old student died after a medical emergency at Westwood Elementary School last week—first responders arrived at 9:30 a.m. on Sept. 16, performed CPR, and transported him to a hospital before his body was sent to the Medical Examiner with foul play not suspected.  St. Cloud Times

CRIME NEWS

  • Students at Tech High School went into a brief lockdown on Monday after a student threat was reported at 10:15 a.m., and two patrol units responded to determine no danger exists—authorities continue to investigate the case.  KNSI

CULTURE NEWS

  • C4 Welding in Sauk Rapids is restoring the sail and rudder of the decommissioned USS Minneapolis-Saint Paul for the new Minnesota Military & Veterans Museum at Camp Ripley set to open in 2026 — Anderson Trucking Services of St. Cloud delivered the submarine parts in 2022.  KNSI

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Tech High School in St. Cloud experienced a false alarm Monday morning when safety protocols were put in place at about 10:15 a.m. — police later confirmed there was no threat and classes resumed after a thorough investigation.  WJON

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Assistant Director of Public Services, Dan Legatt, explained that residents should put grass, leaves, and garden cleanup in compostable yard waste bags while bundling sticks, twigs, and branches separately (not using zip ties) for proper pickup. The compost site on 33rd Street South will be open until the Saturday after Thanksgiving and offers wood chips and black dirt with permits available online or in person at City Hall.  WJON
  • Minnesota’s waterfowl hunting season opens Saturday, September 27 — the season starts 30 minutes before sunrise while the Department of Natural Resources reported a spring count of 417,000 breeding ducks, an 8% increase from last year but 32% lower than the long-term average since 1968.  KNSI

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The House Capital Investment Committee will tour local sites on Thursday, September 25th to review projects for a 2026 capital investment bill—covering safety improvements, a healthcare hub, a wastewater facility, downtown revitalization, and local business and education centers. The bipartisan group will visit these St. Cloud proposals before the next legislative session begins on February 17th.  KNSI
  • McDonald's in Cold Spring missed its permit deadline for a new drive-thru at 200 3rd Street South—its one-year extension request will be voted on by city council on Wednesday—and will delay starting construction until next year—officials say the setback was unexpected.  WJON
  • The parking lot at the St. Cloud Hydroelectric Facility at 1000 1st Avenue South will be intermittently closed for planned improvements starting Monday, September 29 until mid-November — signs will be posted to alert drivers.  City of St. Cloud
  • At Monday night’s meeting, the city council considered a proposal to sell $16.3M in bonds to pay for street repairs and new equipment and to extend the tax increment plan until December 31—with property taxes set to repay the bonds. The council also scheduled a public hearing on Rise Dispensary’s request to sell recreational cannabis and planned to update rules for film production that could let St. Cloud join the Film Ready Community program—fees from film permits would benefit the River’s Edge Convention Center.  KNSI

HEALTH NEWS

  • CentraCare is launching drive-thru flu shot clinics at CentraCare Plaza in St. Cloud at the Meadows Entrance starting this week and running on September 27th, October 4th, October 11th, and October 18th from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.—patients aged six months and older can get the standard vaccine while those 65 and older can choose the new enhanced Fluad vaccine.  KNSI
