COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Waite Park Police will meet with residents at Cashwise on October 1 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.—the event offers a chance for casual conversation with officers without a formal program.  WJON
  • Foley Fire and Rescue is holding its annual open house this Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at 81 Norman Avenue South—kids will test fire safety skills with live kitchen demos at 11:30 and 12:30 and visitors will enjoy free hot dogs and pumpkins from a local farm.  KNSI

BUSINESS NEWS

  • A new 7 Brew opened Monday in St. Cloud and drew large crowds with about 1,000 cars lining up at 4149 Division St. The coffee chain is offering free drink hours from Sept. 29 through Oct. 3 and will host a swag day on Oct. 4—showing its growing popularity in the area.  St. Cloud Times

CULTURE NEWS

  • Tribute bands are set to perform at Pioneer Place on Fifth in downtown St. Cloud this month — Mallrats will open with an MTV Unplugged tribute at 7:30 p.m. this Friday as shows paying homage to Queen, Journey and others follow.  WJON

EDUCATION NEWS

  • District 742 will reveal plans for Apollo High School’s safe entry renovations—including a new front entrance, activity entry and storm shelter that preserves parking and building space—at the board meeting on Wednesday. Officials said bids for the new athletic facility will be issued in spring and that the district continues to face challenges filling substitute teacher roles.  WJON

HEALTH NEWS

  • Veterans in Central Minnesota will have their annual flu shots available at the St. Cloud VA Health Care System through scheduled appointments and walk—thru clinics held from October 6 to October 18. The Brainerd VA Clinic will host a drive—thru clinic on October 8, and more than 70,000 Community Care Network retail pharmacies and urgent care centers will offer free shots.  WJON
