COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Wilson Park in St. Cloud will host a free Halloween event on October 17th from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.—kids in costumes can enjoy pumpkin painting, hayrides, arts and crafts, a petting zoo, magic shows, carnival games, and seasonal treats from local vendors.  WJON
  • Project Connect will take place at Rivers Edge Convention Center on October 28 — St. Cloud State students will prepare 600 care bags with essential items and offer services like housing and medical checks for those in need. The event runs from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and welcomes community donations and volunteer support.  WJON
  • The annual Take Back The Night Rally will be held tomorrow at Lake George to honor victims of domestic violence—beginning with a 5:30 p.m. name reading and moment of silence. Organizers from Anna Marie's Alliance and partner groups will lead a march through downtown St. Cloud.  WJON
  • LedgeTober Flannel Fest is coming to the Ledge Amphitheater in Waite Park this Saturday where local breweries offer around 15 beer selections and craft root beers while live music plays from Maxwell Hageman, Michael Shynes and Mason Dixon Line. The community event costs about $43, runs from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m. and is for guests 21 and over—featuring prize drawings and wine sampling from Piatelli Vineyards.  WJON
  • Tri-County Humane Society will host its final low cost public microchip clinic on October 9, running from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the shelter at 735 8th Street NE in St. Cloud—this walk-in event charges $10 plus tax per microchip and helps reunite lost pets with their families.  KNSI
  • Tri-County Humane Society in St. Cloud has a two-year-old dog named Homie who loves cuddling and playing tug-of-war. The 76-pound pup is available for adoption during business hours at 735 8th Street NE—calls are welcome to schedule a meet-and-greet.  WJON

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Xcel Energy will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony today for its new, expanded service center in Waite Park — officials from the utility, the St. Cloud Area Chamber of Commerce and the City of Waite Park will join the event. The center will have extra storage and more staff for faster power outage response, with remarks starting at 1:30 p.m. and tours with an ice cream social beginning at 2:00 p.m.  KNSI
  • St. Cloud stores bring global flavors to residents by offering specialty items from Jamaica, West Africa, Asia, Somalia and Latin America. VK Caribbean Groceries, Gray's African Grocers, Happy Thyme Asian Market, Mogadishu Grocery and La Perla Market serve fresh ingredients and plan new offerings—like live seafood and Caribbean apparel—to meet local demand amid rising costs.  St. Cloud Times

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Coborn’s Inc. and WK Kellogg Co. have partnered to donate $12,000 to support athletic programs at four local middle schools—North Junior High, South Junior High, Sartell Middle, and Sauk Rapids Middle—for uniforms, equipment, and technology.  WJON

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Xcel Energy reminds customers that the Cold Weather Rule protects homes from utility shutoffs if losing heat would occur between today and April 30—customers must still pay their bills and call to arrange a payment plan if they fall behind.  KNSI
  • St. Cloud Regional Airport changed its name to St. Cloud Sky Central Airport and now uses a new blue and green logo on its website and signs. Officials said the new look shows the airport’s big role in our area—supporting 475 jobs and boosting the local economy by $50 million.  KNSI
  • St. Cloud will use summer survey results to update its Comprehensive Plan during a public work session on Tuesday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the River’s Edge Convention Center—attendees will review proposals to reimagine downtown with a sports arena, historic façade improvements, waterfront development, a grocery store, and improved lighting.  KNSI
