- ➤ Cold Spring Fire Department will host an open house on October 11th from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. at its new $8.4 million firehall at 109 Main Street—visitors can tour the facility, see trucks and equipment, and meet firefighters during Fire Prevention Week. KNSI

- ➤ The Paramount Center for the Arts presents The Fabulous Armadillos’ immersive show "What's Going On? Songs From the Vietnam War Era" this weekend with tickets starting at $39—mixing concert, narration, and multimedia, while upcoming events include TEDxStCloud on October 9th, GREAT Theatre's revival of 9 To 5 from October 17th to November 2nd, and country singer Randy Travis on November 7th with nearly sold out tickets. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ At a Wednesday night meeting, the school board reviewed plans for Apollo High School upgrades that include a new safe entrance, storm shelter, updated science labs, fine arts spaces, and a multipurpose athletic complex with a turf field and walking track—funded by a $50 million vote for the school and $15 million for the athletic facility. Voters approved the funding earlier this year, and the board will move forward with the updated design process. WJON

- ➤ Peak color has arrived in northern Minnesota as bright orange, red, and yellow leaves appear from the North Dakota border to the shores of Lake Superior. State parks including Old Mill and Gooseberry Falls show the best color—areas south of St. Cloud are still beginning to change and are expected to build over the next one to two weeks. KNSI

- ➤ Policyholders using MNsure will face a 20% rise in premiums for 2026 after the Department of Commerce finalized new rates, though a reinsurance program kept the increase lower than it might have been—experts noted it could have reached 40% otherwise. The reinsurance support expires at the end of 2027. KNSI
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Huskies Men’s Hockey fans will be screened by metal detectors in the south atrium and by hand-held wands at the north entrance at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center this season—security measures enhanced after a review of game day survey responses now require a bag check for items larger than five by eight inches. The team will open its season tonight at 6:00 p.m. with an exhibition game against Augustana and host St. Thomas in a standings game on Saturday. KNSI
