COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Tickets for Holly Ball are on sale now for the big fundraiser on December 6th at Rivers Edge. The black tie event—titled Bridges of Life—will support local healthcare services from CentraCare Hospice, Coborn Cancer Center and the Child Advocacy Center. WJON
- ➤ The St. Cloud Friends of the Library will host its Bag O’ Books sale from October 16th through October 18th in the Mississippi Room at Great River Regional Library, where visitors can fill a bag for $8 or buy a box for $15. Funds raised will support library programs and a used bookstore offering CDs, DVDs, and other items — confirmed by volunteer coordinator LeAnn Orth. WJON
- ➤ The Public Safety Foundation announced the 2025 Public Safety Awards—honoring local public safety professionals including Officer Vic Weiss who earned the Medal of Valor after stopping an off-duty assault on the Wobegon Trail and recognizing teams like the St. Cloud Police Department Reserve Officer Unit. The awards ceremony will be held on October 24th at the Park Event Center in Waite Park to honor their service and dedication. KNSI
- ➤ Boo at the Zoo will take place this Saturday at Hemker Zoo where kids can dress up and trick or treat from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.—vendors hand out candy while children 23 months and younger are admitted free and older kids pay $16. WJON
- ➤ Ford—a 3-year-old, 78-pound dog at TriCounty Humane Society in St. Cloud—is waiting for his forever home, loves to snuggle and play with tennis balls, and can be met by calling 320-252-0896 during business hours. Interested adopters are encouraged to visit the shelter or call to schedule a meet-and-greet. WJON

- ➤ Central Appliance Recyclers in St. Cloud will close on November 14 as owners Jeff and Carol Groth retire—customers must drop off appliances and settle outstanding invoices before then since the business has stopped offering pickup services. WJON
- ➤ ATS Logistics acquired Trailer Bridge Logistics to expand its domestic freight brokerage services in key cities such as Dallas, Jacksonville, Kansas City, and Raleigh—this deal builds on a 30-year connection as Trailer Bridge continues its ocean shipping and government services. WJON
- ➤ Minnesota Coaches acquired Spanier Bus Service— a local company that will keep its name and continue serving St. Cloud Area Schools at 1310 Sunridge Drive. Tami Spanier, who led the company for 45 years, will help during the change while drivers, mechanics, and office staff remain in their roles. KNSI
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ On November 15th at 7:30 p.m., the Gordon Lightfoot Tribute Band will perform at Pioneer Place in downtown St. Cloud to mark the 50th anniversary of the S.S. Edmund Fitzgerald sinking. A second show is scheduled on November 22nd at the Le Musique Room in Saint Michael (the program includes Lightfoot’s famous song and will feature 29 bell chimes honoring the lost crew). WJON
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Today, the Public Utilities Commission approved the $6.2 billion sale of Minnesota Power to private investors, with Global Infrastructure Partners owning 60% and the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board owning the rest. The deal requires frozen electricity rates for one year + a $50 million clean energy fund, rate credits, and profit caps through 2030, with the sale set to close by the end of 2025. WJON
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The St. Cloud City Council postponed the decision on recreational cannabis sales at the Rise Dispensary at 3800 3rd Street North due to concerns about state licensing and zoning consistency — the council will review the request on October 20 after seeking guidance from state regulators. KNSI
- ➤ The St. Cloud City Council approved two ordinances Monday that make the city Hollywood Certified under Explore Minnesota’s Film Ready Community Program—this move helps Visit St. Cloud work with production companies on licensing and site selection. The deposit from any application fees will go to the River’s Edge Convention Center fund and no immediate fiscal effect is expected. KNSI
- ➤ St. Cloud Sky Central Airport remains fully operational despite the federal shutdown—TSA agents and air traffic controllers keep flight schedules intact. Allegiant flights continue today and on Saturday while Sun Country’s monthly flight to Laughlin is set to leave Friday and return Monday. WJON

- ➤ St. Cloud now has a new autism therapy clinic—Caravel Autism Health—that offers ABA therapy to help young children improve communication and social skills. The clinic, located at 226 Park Avenue South, provides diagnostic evaluations, therapy, and family support led by local experts. KNSI
- ➤ St. Ben’s volleyball game will shine a light on cancer awareness on November 5th when teams, families, and fans wear special shirts to support patients and survivors. $5 from each shirt will go to CentraCare Coborn Cancer Center—part of an effort by the College of St. Benedict and SAAC to raise funds.
