- ➤ Tri-County Humane Society is celebrating Shelter Animals Month by offering a Spin the Wheel promotion — a chance for visitors to get a 10 percent to 50 percent discount on adoption fees for dogs, puppies, and cats six months or older during October. - ➤ Great River Children's Museum will host a Monopoly-themed Game Night Gala on November 1 at Granite Innovations—doors open at 6:00 p.m. and the event starts at 7:30 p.m.; attendees will enjoy interactive game setups and a silent auction while $125 tickets must be purchased by October 22 to fund the Museums for All program. - ➤ Catholic Community Schools reached $4 million in its capital campaign—two-thirds of its $6 million goal—to retire construction debt, upgrade Cathedral High School’s HVAC system and invest in its elementary schools serving over 1,400 students. The fundraiser gained momentum with a $500,000 grant matched by 150 donors during a 20-day challenge and a major gift from the Cross Works Foundation, which will help cover the debt on the North Building. - ➤ Yesterday, St. Cloud experienced a cold morning with frost coating vehicles as temperatures dropped to 27 degrees. As winter nears, the state has introduced a Literacy Toolkit to help parents boost their children's reading—providing important support for families during cooler months. WJON

- ➤ Friends of Sherburne National Wildlife Refuge said that while the government shutdown has canceled programming at the refuge, thousands of Sandhill Cranes will soon gather here for migration. The birds roost at night and forage by day from mid-October to early November — making dawn and dusk ideal times for viewing. WJON

- ➤ On Wednesday, Minnesota Senate Majority Leader Erin Murphy visited St. Cloud to meet with residents who are worried about federal trade policies hurting soybean farmers and rising MNsure healthcare costs — she said lawmakers plan to address these issues with a multi-billion-dollar aid package and an infrastructure bonding bill that could invest up to $1.3 billion statewide. - ➤ Stearns County approved $165,000 in affordable housing funds for the Avivo Village shelter in St. Cloud at Tuesday’s meeting to help cover a $610,000 shortfall and improve the building’s energy efficient HVAC system—county official Mike Williams noted that additional contributions from Sherburne and possibly Benton Counties are expected. - ➤ The St. Cloud State men’s basketball team is picked to finish 2nd in the NSIC preseason poll and will open their season on November 14 against Northwest Missouri State—while the women’s team is ranked 5th and will begin their season against Washburn on the same day. - ➤ Pheasant hunting begins tomorrow at 9 a.m. in Minnesota as officials expect more birds compared to last year—although heavy corn cover may challenge early hunters. Waterfowl hunters also resume their season tomorrow in the central zone while turkey, archery deer and fall fishing seasons adjust to warmer weather. WJON
- ➤ The Tech boys soccer team won 6-0 against Little Falls on Wednesday to advance in the playoffs and will host Willmar on Saturday, October 11th. ROCORI defeated Sauk Rapids-Rice 4-0 and Sartell beat Apollo 5-0, with ROCORI and Sartell set to meet in Cold Spring on Saturday. WJON
