- ➤ Leighton Media’s 99.9 Lite FM and Primerica Financial Services will help the local Salvation Army kick off its Red Kettle Campaign on November 7th by turning Coborn’s in Sauk Rapids into a winter wonderland with over 500 cookies, hot chocolate, coffee, and Christmas music. The event runs from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.—all donations support local programs like the homeless shelter and food bank with kettles set up across the area until Christmas Eve. KNSI

- ➤ Target Corporation announced the elimination of 1,800 corporate roles — including 1,000 layoffs and 800 roles that will not be refilled — after an internal memo from incoming CEO Michael Fiddelke. The affected staff at its Minneapolis headquarters will work from home through next week and will learn their job status on Tuesday, October 28. WJON

- ➤ Cirque Italia’s Silver Unit will perform a water circus at the Crossroads Center mall from November 7th through the 10th — featuring about 25 artists from several countries who will mix acrobatics with high-tech water effects while ensuring the audience stays dry. KNSI
- ➤ Stearns History Museum will host its final Sundown Cemetery Tour at Oak Hill Cemetery on Oct. 25 from 5 to 6 p.m. for museum members free and $10 for non-members + Sauk Centre’s Palmer House will hold a historic paranormal tour on Oct. 25 from 3 to 5 p.m. that costs $45 and ends with a mini-investigation in the hotel basement. - ➤ St. Cloud State University is narrowing its search for a new president as interim leader Larry Dietz said the search committee has shortlisted 10 candidates and will reduce the list further before sending recommendations by November 5. Interviews with candidates will occur from November 5–7 with a final decision expected on November 19 while Dietz remains interim through 2025. WJON

- ➤ Wildlife officials from the Department of Natural Resources report that deer numbers remain robust across central Minnesota from Little Falls to the Iowa border as fawn production is high due to abundant acorn and crop growth. Hunters are advised to focus on antlerless deer to help manage the population, and the firearms season will start on November 8. KNSI

- ➤ Stearns County officials say October SNAP benefits for 12,500 residents will be issued after the state reversed a pause in processing applications caused by the government shutdown. They warned November SNAP benefits may be delayed if the shutdown continues—about 35,000 Medicaid recipients and other federally funded programs could also face cuts while a new AI system named Ava now helps staff collect client details. - ➤ Teen Driver Safety Week encourages teens to drive safely and reminds local adults that inexperienced drivers are on our roads. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration provided 2023 data showing that teen-involved crashes caused 2,611 deaths and 87,074 injuries—underscoring the need for consistent seatbelt use. - ➤ The Cathedral volleyball team upset Melrose on October 23rd in a five-set match with Maddy Schroeder scoring 20 kills. The team will face Minnewaska Area today. WJON
- ➤ The St. Cloud State wrestling team is ranked eighth in the Division II preseason poll and will open its season on October 30 at the Black and Red Classic. WJON
- ➤ On October 23rd, Blake took control early and defeated the Sabres 5—1 at the Class AA Girls Soccer State Tournament in Monticello. Alexis Omann scored the Sabres’ only goal in the second half, ending their season with a 13—6 record. WJON
- ➤ The boys state soccer tournament saw the Northfield Raiders beat the Sartell Sabres 1—0 on October 23 at Monticello when Kevin Baez scored in the second half; the Raiders will play #1 Blake on October 28 at US Bank Stadium. WJON
- ➤ Today, the Huskies skate against Alaska Anchorage during homecoming at St. Cloud State University where a scavenger hunt awards tickets and other fan promotions are featured. A concert is planned for Saturday afternoon + fireworks will follow the weekend game. KNSI
- ➤ The Foley girls tennis team finished fourth in the Class A State Tournament after a 6-1 loss to St. James in the semifinals and a 5-2 loss to Breck in the third-place match following a 5-2 win over Montevideo. Individual state competitions will begin Thursday with players from St. Cloud Crush and Becker scheduled to compete. WJON
