COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The 23rd Veteran will hold its second annual Winter Gala on December 6 at the Greysolon Ballroom — where guests will enjoy a social hour, dinner, and veterans sharing stories of overcoming trauma.  WJON

BUSINESS NEWS

  • New ownership is reviving Crossroads Center in St. Cloud by adding trendy shops like the new 89th + Madison store and planning family events, while vacancies remain near Target as owners work to boost the mall's appeal. Mall OWeen is scheduled for October 31 from 4 to 7 p.m. to offer Halloween activities for local residents.  WJON
  • Minnesota’s Attorney General’s Office announced a settlement with TFG Holding—parent of JustFab, ShoeDazzle, and FabKids—over claims that it used hidden fees and auto-enrolled customers in a $49.95 monthly membership that added extra charges at checkout; TFG must now show all costs, allow easy cancellations, and refund some past charges.  KNSI

CULTURE NEWS

  • River's Edge Convention Center in St. Cloud will host Dinosaur Adventure on November 1 and 2. The event will offer life-sized dinosaur displays, fossil digging, raptor training, obstacle courses, bounce houses and a baby dinosaur meet-and-greet with tickets starting at $32.40 for adults — visitors are advised to bring socks for the inflatables and a camera for photo-ops.  WJON

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The northwestern part of Rockville County Park was closed on Friday for a controlled burn to restore native prairie habitat. The Stearns County Parks Department said the burn helps remove invasive plants, speed up decomposition and return nutrients to the soil—supporting the regrowth of native grasses and flowers.  KNSI

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Metro Bus will offer free rides on November 4 for voters going to the polls and on November 11 for veterans who show their military ID—customers need to tell the bus driver or dispatcher before boarding to get the free ride. This service supports voters and honors service members on these key days.  WJON
  • The Great River Regional Library Board approved a plan to temporarily move Cold Spring’s library branch to 402 Red River Avenue North—an upgrade that offers more space—while city hall begins major renovations next year. The branch will be housed at this new site for no more than three years as a group raises funds for a permanent location.  KNSI

HEALTH NEWS

  • Today, local agencies host Prescription Drug Take Back Day where residents can safely drop off unwanted or expired medications from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.; drop boxes at the Government Center also accept medications and needles—helping to keep drugs out of the wrong hands.  KNSI

SPORTS NEWS

  • St. John's, ranked 11th at 5-1, will host a 5-1 Carleton team at 1 p.m. today in Collegeville during Family Weekend—new starting quarterback Trey Feeney, who threw for 374 yards and 4 touchdowns last week, is expected to lead the team.  WJON
  • Today, the 11th ranked 5-1 St. John's football team will host 5-1 Carleton at 1 p.m. in Collegeville on Family Weekend. Starting quarterback Trey Feeney threw for 374 yards and 4 touchdowns last week — head coach Gary Fasching said he has improved each week — and will lead his team in the matchup.  WJON
  • The bear hunting season ended on October 12 with nearly 2,900 bears taken after strong late activity, and youth deer hunters last weekend had notable success with an 11-year-old shooting a 12-point buck. Cooler weather has boosted grouse hunting while duck hunters await more arrivals in the coming weeks—experts say—possibly changing local hunting trends.  WJON
  • High school football heats up today when the #5-seeded Sauk Rapids-Rice Storm — coming off a 38-30 upset over Brainerd — will face the #1-seeded Alexandria Cardinals at 6 p.m., following a previous 49-14 defeat in week five.  WJON
  • Cathedral boys beat Cristo Rey Jesuit 6 to 2 on Thursday with key goals by Jacob Oliver and Drew Lesnau while Joey Cluever saved four shots, and they will play Stewartville at US Bank Stadium on Oct 28. The girls won 1 to 0 over St. Paul Academy on Thursday — earning their first trip to US Bank Stadium as they prepare to face Watertown-Mayer on Oct 29 at 7 p.m.  WJON
  • Today, the Minnesota Golden Gophers travel to Iowa at 2:30 p.m. on CBS, needing a win to clinch bowl eligibility and stay tied for second in the Big 10—this win would mark only the second time the team has overcome the Hawkeyes under Coach PJ Fleck.  WJON
