COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Fare For All will host a pop-up grocery event today from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Atonement Lutheran Church on 29th Avenue North in St. Cloud — the event offers affordable food for holiday family gatherings. WJON
- ➤ Catholic Charities Emergency Services is bracing for a surge in need when SNAP benefits end later this month—already, the food shelf served 4% more individuals, 6% more households and distributed 7% more food than last year. The organization will adjust food distribution methods and accept cash, nonperishable food, winter wear and toy donations at 157 Roosevelt Road with extended hours Monday through Friday and on Wednesdays until 7 p.m. KNSI
- ➤ CPKC Holiday Train will travel through Minnesota in December with stops in Annandale, Eden Valley, Glenwood, Alexandria, Detroit Lakes, Mahnomen, Thief River Falls, and Elbow Lake—offering free concerts, festive music, and donations to local food banks. The tour, running from Nov. 19 through Dec. 21, will help support community needs during the holiday season. WJON
- ➤ Stearns County is hosting a free decoration swap event called 'Swap. Don't Shop!' on November 7th at the Service Center in Waite Park where residents will drop off up to five new or gently used holiday decor items. The swap takes place on November 10th at the Great River Regional Library—organizers hope the effort will reduce waste by giving decorations a second life. KNSI
- ➤ Sartell’s road work is nearly finished as curbs, sidewalks, and pavement have been completed—final touches will be applied in spring to fully open the road. Mayor Ryan Fitzthum said new projects including the Wyndham Garden Inn hotel, planned Mill District developments, clearing for Niron Magnetics, and a Panera Bread at River Crossing signal upcoming community growth. - ➤ David Peacock— a Metro Bus driver from St. Cloud—was named Minnesota Bus Operator of the Year at the Minnesota Public Transit Association Conference earlier this month. He has worked for 24 years, trains new drivers, and is praised for his professional service that brings safe rides to our community. WJON
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The City of St. Cloud is asking local artists for original designs to create vinyl wraps for utility boxes downtown — the project will add a new artistic touch to city-owned properties. City of St. Cloud
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ St. Cloud State University’s Manufacturing Engineering Technology program received an $18,000 Gene Haas Foundation grant to fund student scholarships—supporting hands-on CNC training and research among students. The program also built transfer agreements with Alexandria Technical and Community College and Hennepin Technical College—creating clear pathways for students to complete their degrees. KNSI
- ➤ St. Cloud State University professor Sarah Green has won the Pushcart Prize for her poem 'Tinder' — her second time receiving this honor. Her winning poem will appear in the anthology’s 50th edition on December 2, adding to her notable achievements in creative writing. KNSI
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The St. Cloud Police Department will host the November Dog Walker Watch meeting on November 25 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at its headquarters at 101 11th Avenue North — participants will join a guided tour and must leave their dogs at home. KNSI
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Starting in January, the Minnesota Paid Leave and Family Program will give family caregivers 12 weeks of paid leave and job protection (with partial wage replacement) to help balance work and care. Many caregivers face high costs and long hours as they assist loved ones with daily needs. WJON
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Young runners from Central Minnesota will compete at the state cross country meet on November 1 at Les Bolstad Golf Club in Falcon Heights. The races start at 10 a.m. for Class A boys with subsequent events scheduled for Class A girls at 10:45 a.m.—runners from local teams will participate in Class AA and AAA events later in the day. - ➤ Granite City Lumberjacks, undefeated at 10–0, will try to secure their 11th win in a home-and-home series against Alexandria Blizzard, with Friday’s game in Alexandria at 7:10 p.m. and Saturday’s contest at the Miller Buick GMC Rink at Benton County Fairgrounds—meanwhile, the St. Cloud Norsemen will host the Minot Minotaurs on Friday at 7:00 p.m. and Saturday at 6:30 p.m. at the Municipal Athletic Complex as they aim to improve their standing in the division. - ➤ The Cathedral boys soccer team won 1-0 against Stewartville on Tuesday at US Bank Stadium and advanced to the state championship—Drew Lesnau scored the goal and Joey Cluever kept the shutout. The team will face Academy of Holy Angels on Friday at 7:15 p.m. WJON
