CULTURE NEWS

  • Aspiring board game designers will showcase their games and get feedback at Minnesota Protospiel, which will run from January 23rd to 25th at the Doubletree Minneapolis Airport Hotel—organizer Nicole Fende said designers often update entries until the last minute. The event charges $70 for designers and $20 for playtesters and will feature over 100 entries.  WJON

SPORTS NEWS

  • Local runner Margaret Duffy from St. Johns Prep clinched the state Class A Cross Country Championship today with a time of 17:55:5, and St. Cloud Cathedral finished second after tying with New London-Spicer on team score.  WJON
  • On Friday, October 31, local high school football teams played their games; Eden Valley-Watkins beat St. Cloud Cathedral 28—14 with Henry Schloe throwing two touchdown passes, Marshall defeated ROCORI 22—7 with Calab Maddox scoring the Spartans’ only touchdown, Fergus Falls edged Becker 27—26 after Ebert Bringham missed an extra point, Litchfield won 23—6 with Jalen Prevo scoring on a 92-yard fumble recovery, Holdingford beat Osakis 48—14 with Jaxon Bartkowicz notching five passing touchdowns, Pierz beat Pequot Lakes 35—0, and Annandale beat Foley 37—14. In boys soccer, Academy of Holy Angels won 4—2 over St. Cloud Cathedral.  WJON
  • Families attended SCAYBA Day at Apollo High School Saturday, where youth players competed in skills contests as Timberwolves' mascot Crunch and the Slam Team entertained the crowd (raffle prizes included jerseys and a signed basketball). The event was hosted by the St. Cloud Area Youth Basketball Association for boys and girls in grades 3-8 (the competition brought local excitement).  WJON
  • The Minnesota Frost unveiled their first-ever commemorative jerseys to honor back-to-back championships—featuring silver stitch details and a Walter Cup patch. The team will debut the new uniforms at home on November 21 against the Toronto Scepters.  WJON
