- ➤ Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Minnesota received a record $740,000 donation from the Federated Challenge in July — the event hosted by Federated Insurance drew over 700 attendees and 113 sponsoring businesses to support local youth mentorship programs. WJON
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ At the All-Investors Meeting, the Greater St. Cloud Development Corporation gave five annual awards for business, community and leadership work and introduced a new Project of the Year Award to the University of Minnesota CentraCare Regional Campus in St. Cloud — Career Solutions, ARXG by Reconomy and Scipi Companies also earned awards. Greg Windfeldt received the Leadership Award and a Legacy Award honored the late Al Kremers for his long regional impact. KNSI
- ➤ Renovations are underway at the former PepperJax at the 33rd Street and Division corner as Giliberto's will soon open a full-service restaurant + drive-thru and patio in the space, which has been vacant since the restaurant closed in 2022. The work indicates that locals will have a new option for dining in the neighborhood. WJON
- ➤ Kwik Trip is launching new fall treats by adding Cheese Stuffed Nachos to its hot bar—banana pudding was also introduced on November 4 to offer a sweet option. The chain gives customers a mix of warm, savory items and classic sweet treats with its updated seasonal menu. WJON
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Eight Christmas movies filmed in Minnesota show how local winter scenes add charm to festive films such as Jingle All the Way (filmed at Mall of America in 1996) and Christmas Break-In (shot in Duluth in 2018), with titles also set in Isanti, Minneapolis, Northfield, Rush City, and St. Paul. The list features both live-action and animated movies that highlight the state’s snowy backdrops and holiday spirit. WJON
- ➤ A local DJ at Townsquare Media in St. Cloud recalled his time in Central Minnesota as he prepares to leave for Virginia next Tuesday; he thanked coworkers and local partners (including broadcasters and healthcare staff) for their support during his two-year tenure. WJON
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Catholic Community Schools capital campaign announced a new $1 million matching donation from Cross Works Foundation to support a $6 million goal for school improvements. CCS President David Fremo said every new gift will be matched—funding building upgrades, HVAC improvements, and teacher development. WJON
- ➤ Tina Marie Arendt of Madison Elementary was named Teacher of the Month for her dedication and positive impact on students—she was nominated by a parent and will receive prizes from local businesses as recognition. WJON
- ➤ Sartell-St. Stephen Schools earned an A rating and ranked 10th among 362 districts in Central Minnesota because reviews praised its teachers and after-school programs. The rating comes from recent data that highlights the district’s quality education. WJON
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ A major road project on Lincoln Avenue in East St. Cloud is nearing completion with only a few small fixes remaining. The $4.2 million project began in June and updated water and sewer lines, resurfaced roads, added new sidewalks and a center turn lane — it was delayed a year by the Highway 10 and 23 construction. - ➤ Sartell-St. Stephen is hosting the Section 6A girls swimming and diving meet today and tomorrow, where local athletes aim to qualify for the State meet and win the section title. Coach Hannah Nelson said her team faces strong competition from Melrose, Sauk Rapids-Rice and Tech—each event awards points based on finishing order. WJON
- ➤ Deer hunting season opens today in central Minnesota as mild winters kept deer numbers high—local expert Glen Schmitt urged hunters to secure licenses, gear and blaze orange clothing. Cool weather means hunters will benefit from longer stand times—improving conditions for duck and goose hunting as well. WJON
