- ➤ John Waseka, owner of the Copper Lantern, was a beloved community leader known for his mentorship, athletic achievements, and business success in Saint Cloud—his warm smile and memorable stories uplifted many. A celebration of his life will be held tomorrow at Jack and Jim's in Duelm from 3:00 p.m. to 6 p.m. with spoken words at 4 p.m., where family and friends will honor his legacy. WJON
- ➤ A Central Minnesota organization called Initiative Foundation received a $100,000 grant from the McKnight Foundation to help families with groceries, heating, and other essentials — the funds will buy gift cards for people in 14 counties including Stearns. The group will work with local non-profits to deliver the aid quickly. WJON
- ➤ The Sartell Chamber of Commerce is collecting Christmas toys and gifts for the United Way of Central Minnesota with drop sites at city hall, the Sartell Community Center, and St. Cloud Financial Credit Union. - ➤ Metz & Co will open at 10 a.m. Friday in downtown St. Cloud at 623 W. St. Germain St. in a restored historic building that features original tin ceilings and stenciling from 1875 — the shop will offer vintage home decor, records and collectibles with plans to add more vendors on a second floor soon. - ➤ Gas prices in Minnesota fell 2.8 cents per gallon last week to average $2.92, while diesel edged up to $3.77—sparking hope that travelers may pay less at the pump for the upcoming holidays. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ School District 742 will begin work on a new storm shelter with a secure entrance at Apollo in summer 2026—construction will continue through the 2026-2027 school year. The district will also start building a multi-purpose athletic facility in spring 2026 that is expected to be ready by spring with added parking for visitors. WJON
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ BikeMN told shoppers that some online retailers sell e-bikes that break Minnesota law if they have motors over 750 watts, go faster than 28 mph, or lack working pedals—this could lead to fines or unsafe riding. The group and state safety officials urged buyers to check that each bike meets legal standards before purchase. WJON
- ➤ University Drive Southeast is closed between 16th and 19th Avenues due to a private utility repair—drivers should follow the posted detour. The St. Cloud Public Works Department says the work will finish by 9:00 a.m. on Friday, November 28th. KNSI
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Sartell-St. Stephen High School celebrated a historic fall season as its volleyball team reached state for the first time since 1977 and the soccer, swim, and cross country teams also performed well—Superintendent Michael Rivard said community support and school spirit helped boost the students’ efforts on the field and in class. - ➤ Foley High School swept six categories in the Best of Local High School Sports Ballot Monday and earned $2,000 in prizes, including a $500 bonus for winning the most awards overall. The wins include Best Student Section, Best Mascot, a shared Best Rivalry with Milaca, and individual honors for a coach and two athletes. KNSI
- ➤ Melrose Area High School will host the Defender Invite 2025 wrestling tournament on November 26, with boys' and girls' varsity teams set to begin at 11:00 a.m. Regional teams from Albany, Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa and others will compete against each other in the event. WJON
