COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Stearns County launched an online 10-minute survey today to help shape free Community Resource Centers for caregivers and assess needs for services like respite care, educational programs & peer groups. Feedback will guide future resource recommendations across the region.  KNSI
  • St. Cloud State University's upgraded Husky Dome is available for community rentals this winter (serving soccer, softball, and football events) from mid-November to mid-April after summer upgrades replaced the old dome built 20 years ago. The facility invites local teams and groups to book the venue.  WJON

CULTURE NEWS

  • Musician Dennis Warner will host the 11th annual John Denver Service with live performances this Sunday at 10:00 a.m. in downtown St. Cloud at the Lahr Block (601 West St. Germain Street), and community members are invited to bring socks and mittens for those in need.  WJON

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Interim President Larry Dietz reflected on his 1½-year leadership on WJON today, reviewing managing budget cuts, enrollment decline and campus changes including plans for unused buildings — he will leave his role on Jan.4 while Dr. Gregory Tomso takes over with his public debut on Jan.8.  WJON

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The St. Cloud VA Health Care System permanently housed 66 veterans under the Getting Veterans Off the Street initiative launched in May, with the nationwide effort providing homes for nearly 52,000 veterans in fiscal year 2025 (a key part of the program's drive to end veteran homelessness).  WJON

SPORTS NEWS

  • Minnesota fan Francis Dressen creates a new Timberwolves jersey design for each win, blending local culture into sports art. His designs (including a North Stars jersey and a Fargo movie nod) add a creative twist for local fans as the season unfolds.  WJON
  • Local ice fishing conditions are improving as Glen Schmitt reports that many lakes now have 3 to 4 inches of ice. He advises anglers to check ice thickness at familiar spots and stay safe while fishing this weekend.  WJON
  • The SCSU volleyball team beat Missouri Western 3-1 at the Central Regional tournament in Kearney, Nebraska, boosting its record to 27-6 and setting up a semi-final match today at 7:00 p.m.  WJON
