COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Dozens of law enforcement officers and volunteers hosted the annual Shop with a Cop event at Walmart in St. Cloud Thursday night, where 51 shoppers helped brighten the holidays for over 160 children. Local partners including St. Cloud Police, the Sheriff's Office, and community businesses supported the program.  KNSI
  • At 529 16th Avenue North, the Overcomers International Fellowship Dream Center is marking 30 years with a Christmas outreach offering meals on Christmas Eve and Day for previously incarcerated men and others. The center asks for food, clothing and cash toward a $125,000 capital campaign, accepting items through January 1.  KNSI

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Xcel Energy is urging residents in central Minnesota to lower thermostats and close window coverings to save on heating costs as a deep freeze is expected to grip the region through Monday. The company also advises careful use of space heaters and regular appliance maintenance to ensure safety.  KNSI
  • Stearns County residents can drop off old electronics at the Household Hazardous Waste Facility in Waite Park beginning Jan. 5. The drive-thru runs Monday-Saturday from 7:00 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. ($10 per screen fee applies).  WJON

HEALTH NEWS

  • More than 1,200 guests attended the 51st Holly Ball at River’s Edge Convention Center (the annual gala) and raised over $920,000 for CentraCare Foundation to support local health care services. The event set new auction records, and the 52nd ball is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 5.  KNSI
