COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Tri-County Humane Society has two adoptable black kittens (Snoopy and Schroeder) available now; both are bonded and ideal for families seeking a pair of lifelong companions while plans to reunite their other siblings develop.  WJON
  • Volunteers collected 1,208 pounds of food and $429 in donations on the first day of the Jolly Trolley Food Drive at Metro Bus, and day two was held Tuesday outside Coborn's on Cooper from (4:30 to 6:30 p.m.) as community members helped those in need this holiday season.  WJON
  • TriCounty Humane Society is showcasing Nala, a 4½-year-old German Shepherd-Rottweiler mix ready for a new family. The shelter welcomes potential adopters at 735 8th Street NE during business hours, while a donor recently contributed $250 toward her adoption fee — call 320-252-0896 for a meet-and-greet.  WJON

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Most restaurants will be closed on Christmas Day, but several spots offer limited hours or pre-made takeout meals for holiday dining; chains like Wendy’s + McDonald’s and local eateries including IHOP and Happy Thyme will have service on Christmas Eve and select hours on Christmas Day.  St. Cloud Times
  • Crossroads Center in St. Cloud has extended its shopping hours to ease holiday stress, running from Dec. 15 to Dec. 21 and through New Year with weekday hours and reduced times on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve. Shoppers can enjoy more time for finding gifts and preparing for celebrations.  WJON

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Municipal Band will host its annual Christmas Concert on Thursday at Whitney Senior Center at 7:00 p.m. — a social hour with free cookies and hot chocolate begins at 6:15 p.m.  WJON

EDUCATION NEWS

  • During Monday night's Winter Leadership Summit at St. Cloud State University, Minnesota FFA announced ROCORI as the overall winner in seven event categories, earning top honors in Parliamentary Procedure + overall exam and practicum scores and advancing to the National FFA Convention in fall 2026.  KNSI
  • Central Minnesota high school student Alexander Assih of St. Joseph has been nominated by Rep. Michelle Fischbach to attend the U.S. Naval Academy (he is one of ten district nominees recommended by her Service Academy Board) and is also a member of the Sartell-St. Stephen Sabre Robotics team.  KNSI
  • As winter approaches, ROCori Area Schools are working with the National Weather Service to decide on early dismissals, delayed starts & closures while monitoring factors like transportation and temperature. Parents may keep students home if they feel it is safer.  WJON

HEALTH NEWS

  • The American Heart Association updated its CPR guidelines to simplify the chain of survival, now recommending alternating five back blows & five abdominal thrusts for choking and providing naloxone instructions for opioid overdose. Alicia Bravo, a local trainer, urged holiday gatherers to refresh life-saving skills as the season nears.  KNSI
  • Minnesota lakes are inviting anglers this winter to practice ice fishing safely by checking ice thickness, using only two lines, and securing proper shelter licenses; officials remind everyone to keep the ice clean + follow local guidelines for a secure experience.  WJON

SPORTS NEWS

  • St. Cloud State University volleyball ended its season with a 28-7 record and finished ranked fifth nationally after winning the NSIC title + Coach Braegelmann marked his 200th career win. Some key players will move on while others return for the next season.  WJON
  • The St. Cloud Crush earned third place at the Melrose Defender Tournament by scoring 117.5 points and winning nine medals (including standout efforts by Sutton Kenning and Jack Hamak) as they competed against teams from Brained and Alexandria.  WJON
