COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Organizer Ashley Green of Green Thumb hosts the Love Story Wedding Show on January 11 with a VIP hour starting at 10:00 a.m. and general admission from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. featuring a 104.7 KCLD fashion show and vendor networking for wedding planning in St. Cloud.  KNSI
  • Volunteers packed and delivered 300 care packages on Thursday to residents at local nursing homes and assisted living facilities. The Operation Christmas Card effort included handwritten cards and blankets — meant to ease seniors’ social isolation — and organizers plan to expand the program with new partners next year.  KNSI

BUSINESS NEWS

  • BCI Construction is remodeling the former Paddy's Game Shoppe at 706-708 West St. Germain into the new Red Owl Food Store with the first alley patio downtown. The renovation will finish by mid-April and include space for company staff and additional tenants.  WJON

CULTURE NEWS

  • Living Waters Lutheran Church hosts 'Christmas Eve in a Barn' at Pederson Farm in Sauk Rapids on Dec. 24 with services at 12:00 p.m., 1:30 p.m., and 3:00 p.m. (Visitors are encouraged to dress warmly for the unheated barn experience.)  WJON
  • Gretchen Boulka was promoted to executive director of the Paramount Center for the Arts in 2023 after serving as performing arts director since 2017. She uses her music and marketing experience from Milwaukee to boost local cultural programs in St. Cloud.  WJON

ECONOMY NEWS

  • The St. Cloud Airport Authority completed $10.9M in improvements since January 2022 — including a heated hangar and firefighting truck — and saw a 23% rise in passenger numbers in 2024. It expects $8.5M in grants for upgrades such as a jet fuel tank and apron reconstruction in 2026.  KNSI

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The District 742 Board of Education approved new elementary boundaries that will affect about 500 students starting in the 2026-27 school year — Kennedy Community School will now house the Northside Spanish Immersion program while Lincoln and Talahi serve pre-K to 5th grade for balanced enrollment.  KNSI
  • The School Board named its new $15 million indoor sports facility Apex Athletic Center following a unanimous design review. A groundbreaking is set for May 2026 at Apollo High with completion expected in April 2027 to support sports such as soccer, softball, lacrosse, baseball, football and golf.  KNSI

HEALTH NEWS

  • St. Cloud State University and CentraCare have launched a study on fall risks for adults 60 and older at Halenbeck Hall; 200 participants will undergo balance and body composition tests (with some invited to a free 10-week prevention program at the Whitney Senior Center) to boost local health.  WJON

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Holiday advice urges guests to arrive on time, bring a gift, and neatly store coats at local gatherings. The tips promote a relaxed atmosphere and honor the warm, extended Minnesota Goodbye.  WJON

SPORTS NEWS

  • Ice conditions on area lakes improved as slush melted and new 6-8 inch ice formed today — giving anglers safer access for holiday ice fishing. ATVs and UTVs may soon appear on the lakes as colder weather arrives.  WJON
