- ➤ Local faith groups are joining forces to offer overflow housing at a new shelter through the end of April. Volunteers are needed to set up extra cots + mats and shuttle the homeless for safety during the cold. KNSI
- ➤ The Bold and Bright Festival returns to downtown from Jan. 30 to Feb. 1 with comedy, pond hockey, a mac and cheese crawl, and fireworks celebrating winter. Organizers invite families to enjoy events at local venues (Funny Friday events at B-Side Indie Music Cafe and more). St. Cloud Times
- ➤ Jack — a sweet 1-year-old, 70-pound mixed breed — awaits adoption at TriCounty Humane Society at 735 8th Street NE in St. Cloud. Adoption holds cost $25 plus tax and fees are half-off if he is adopted today before closing at 3 p.m. WJON

- ➤ Up In Smoke BBQ is moving from its current spot on 2nd Street South (near Liberty Bank) to Marketplace Mall in Waite Park and will close today at 8 p.m. to prepare for a reopening in a few weeks with expanded seating and a new menu featuring breakfast on select days. WJON
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ St. Cloud School District Superintendent Laurie Putnam is working to secure contracts with remaining bargaining groups while unveiling plans for a new athletic center called Apex, with construction starting in spring 2026. The district also enforces a snow day policy and addresses food insecurity among families. WJON
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ At today's City Council meeting, Stearns Conservation District will propose a controlled burn at Lookout Park to clear buckthorn and prepare wildflowers for next year, potentially covering 90% of the $3,700 cost with a grant while building on work by ROCORI FFA students. WJON
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Three local groups received DEED grants to boost workforce training in high-demand fields. Avivo got $400K to build a no-barrier homeless shelter on 31st Avenue South in St. Cloud, while Central Minnesota Jobs and Training Services and DBA Career Solutions were awarded $600K and $325K. KNSI
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Cathedral High School will host the Crusader Christmas Classic on Dec. 29-30 with local basketball teams competing starting at 2:00 p.m., while the MAC holds the Granite City Showcase Boys Hockey tournament from Dec. 29 to 31 featuring teams like Monticello and Sauk Rapids. WJON
- ➤ The Granite City Classic will be held on Dec. 26 and Dec. 27 with 66 varsity teams and over 80 lower-level teams competing at local high school gyms—such as St. Cloud State Univ. Breakdown Sports USA organizes the 15th annual tournament featuring local talent. WJON
- ➤ Central Minnesota's Tom Rowland, owner of Thomas Sno Sports in Ogilvie, will compete in the 2,500-mile Iron Dog race in Alaska from February 12 to 21, 2026 as part of the Ambassador class with the '3 Old Guys' and local riders. WJON
- ➤ Wrestling talent from St. Cloud Crush and Albany Huskies is shining in tournaments held in Granite City as athletes earn top state rankings. Local schools continue to strengthen their wrestling programs to boost the competitive spirit. WJON
- ➤ Minnesota native alpine skier Lindsey Vonn qualified for the 2026 Winter Olympics & will represent Team USA in Milano Corina. At 41, she will race in Alpine downhill events & hopes to add another medal to her Olympic legacy. WJON
